"Holding a resentment is like eating poison and hoping the other person dies."
Susan St. James

True, mature forgiveness is difficult, and a matter of the will, not a weepy, sentimental washing away of injuries and pretending things never happened along with a codependent belief that because we forgave, the wrongdoer will reform and everything will be rosy. It requires a lot of work, prayer and help from God. Not being able to forgive wrongs done to us either by others or ourselves, seriously impedes our progress in working our programs.

Meditations will focus on how to forgive without abdicating our own power and how to work steps 6, 7 , 8, and 9 to both give and receive forgiveness. Join us in this journey as we explore different paths of forgiveness using traditional church ritual, guidelines from the twelve-step traditions, the labyrinth, and divine inspiration. Celebrate with us a new beginning, free of past hurts.

Our presenter, R. Eileen Mitchell, is a trained spiritual director and has been in recovery since 1991. A past convener of the Addictions Recovery Ministry, Eileen has served as a spiritual director at both the mixed gender and women’s retreats for the Addiction Recovery Ministry. She was the presenter at the 2002 Women’s Creativity Retreat and one of the presenters at the 2004 Women’s Addiction Recovery Weekend. A member of the Diocesan Standing Committee and Chairman of the Reconciliation Commission for the diocese, she is also active in her home parish, All Saints’ Episcopal Church in River Ridge. The recovering community in the Diocese has come to love Eileen for her leadership, wit, and wisdom.

The weekend begins with supper at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 7 and ends after Eucharist on Sunday, January 9 (Sunday lunch will not be provided). The cost is $120

A $60 non-refundable deposit is required and should be sent along with the attached registration form no later than December 30 to: SECC, 54296 Hwy. 445, Loranger, LA 70446.
