Can't Buy My Love:
How Advertising
Changes the Way we
Think and Feel

January 11-13, 2002
The Annual Weekend for Women
who are or who wish to be in recovery.

Sponsored by the Addictions Recovery Ministry
Of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana

The Addictions Recovery Ministry of the diocese of Louisiana announces its annual weekend retreat for women who are or wish to be in recovery. The weekend will take place at the Conference Center in Robert, LA, January 11, 12 and 13, 2002. After the rush of the holidays, treat yourself to a restful weekend. Come relax, recharge and renew yourself in the Spirit and fellowship.

We are delighted to welcome Jean Kilbourne as program presenter. She is internationally recognized for her pioneering work on alcohol and tobacco advertising and the image of women in advertising.  Her films, (including the award winning documentary "Killing Us Softly: Advertising's Image of Women"), lectures and television appearances have been seen by millions of people throughout the world.  Her book Can't Buy My Love recently won the Distinguished Publication Award from the Association for Women in Psychology. With incisive wit and irony that have delighted and enlightened her audiences for years, Jean educates her audiences about health and addictions as well as advertising and the media.

The weekend will be enhanced with offerings of 12 Step meetings, Individual Spiritual Direction, Taize service with healing and music. Theraputic massage will also be offered at an additional fee.

The weekend will begin with supper at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 11 and will end after the Eucharist on Sunday (Sunday lunch will not be provided). The cost is $120.00. A $60.00 non-refundable deposit is required and should be sent, along with the attatched registration form (please copy & paste), no later than December 10, 2001 to:

The Addictions Recovery Ministry of the Episcopal Church helps recovering Christians find a home within the church. This weekend will blend the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous with Christianity. Our desire is not to be dogmatic or exclude anyone in their spiritual search. Our hope is to live out the acceptance and love taught by Jesus.

A scholarship fund has been established in loving memory of our friends, Brother James Mark Eddy and The Rev. Daryl Canfill. With recovery came new life for Br. James and Fr. Daryl Canfill who, in finding God, found themselvesand who were not only an inspiration but sweet and loving friends to us all. Those in need of a partial scholarship(up to 50% of the cost of a double occupancy room) may contact Mary Ferry at (504) 455-7984 or at maryferry@msn.com
